Christensen launch 50-metre M/Y Jackpot in advance of move to new yard

20th June 2019

As one of its last moves before relocating to a new facility in Tennesee, Christensen has launched its latest superyacht, 50-metre Jackpot. Photos were released of the vessel entering the waters of the Colombia river, with Christensen’s social media announcing the launch with the play on words: “I would say this owner hit the JACKPOT”.

The yard is suitably proud of their latest vessel, which is able to accommodate 12 guests over six staterooms, which include a full beam VIP suite and an on deck master cabin, all featuring a classically beautiful Christensen interior. Specifications include a cruising speed of 12 knots, up to a maximum speed of 16 knots, powered by two MTU diesel engines, with a range of over 4,000 nautical miles.

Following the launch of Jackpot, Christensen have revealed that a number of existing owners had approached them to discuss the construction of even larger vessels. Plans for their new yard space reveal 13 individual construction bays within 450,000 square feet of climate controlled space, as part of a 55 acre facility. This will enable the construction of multiple yachts over 70-metres simultaneously, meeting increased owner demand. “In our new range we can now compete with any builder in the world in both price and quality and, unlike our existing facility, we can offer yachts virtually unrestricted in beam.” says Christensen chairman, Henry Luken.

The move to a larger facility marks a turning point in American yacht building in general, which has been in steady decline over the past twenty years. An additional but key benefit of the new facility over the current (which is based in Vancouver, Washington), is access to the Gulf of Mexico via a series of dams and locks, significantly reducing journey time to the East Coast of the United States, where many owners are based.

Jackpot will spend the next few weeks undergoing finishing touches and sea trials before being delivered to her owners, a pair of experienced New Jersey yachtsmen. The owners will base the vessel on the East Coast of the United States, with international cruising planned in the upcoming years.
