Baltic Yachts sign order for 35.6-metre Custom Classic Sloop

14th June 2019

Baltic Yachts have signed a new order to build a 35.6-metre Custom Classic Sloop. Work on this advanced composite yacht will commence in Autumn 2019, with an expected launch date in 2021.

The design of the sloop is the work of Dykstra Naval Architects who describe the design as a yacht with ‘timeless elegance’. The Custom Classic sloop will feature a straight stem, bowsprit, counter stern and deep bulwarks in distinctive pilot cutter-style.

Although classically designed, modern features to reduce emissions and the impact on the environment will feature heavily throughout the vessel. A lithium ion battery bank will power an electric propulsion system, enabling the yacht to cruise on ‘silent’ mode for long distances, and efficiency will be key, with the introduction of an energy recycling system that will use air conditioning energy waste to heat up water, and ‘smart’ cabins that automatically reduce their own energy consumption when not in use. “This is a very consumption conscious vessel using sophisticated computerised monitoring to pre-determine cabin ‘sleep’ modes depending on the conditions,” says Matthew Lester, a key member of the Baltic team.

Interior design will be ‘light and contemporary’ with DeVosdeVries using ‘industrial chic hardware’ and stained oak with dark bog oak trims to achieve the overall look. The yacht will be able to welcome eight guests in four cabins including the owner's suite and three guest cabins, with crew accommodation for six aft of the vessel. Commissioned by an experienced owner, the vessel will comply with the DNV GL unlimited worldwide charter code, to allow those on board to cross oceans and venture to even the most remote cruising locations.

“We are delighted to be working with a new client who is both a keen yachtsman and is technically experienced,” says Henry Hawkins, CEO of Baltic Yachts. “A great deal of pre-planning and engineering has gone into this project and we are enjoying working with the owner.”
