Damen launches hull of SeaXplorer 77 M/Y La Datcha

This weekend of the 1-2 June 2019 saw the launch of the hull of the latest SeaXplorer by Damen, named La Datcha. The first SeaXplorer 77 to hit the water, La Datcha is a 76.9-metre explorer yacht that was first presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019. Following on from the SeaExplorer 65 that was launched last July, at 2,560GT La Datcha is the largest superyacht of this series Damen has delivered. 

Subsequent to her keel laying ceremony in July 2018, construction of her hull was completed at Damen’s shipyard in Galati, Romania, with her exterior design the work of Azure Naval Architects and the engineering team at Damen. Now safely in the water, she will be transported to Damen’s Netherlands facility for outfitting, with delivery scheduled for 2020.

Rose Damen, MD of Damen and Amels describes the SeaXplorer series as vessels of “professional capability with no compromise on the superyacht experience,” with La Datcha’s owner planning to take advantage of her numerous features, using the yacht as a heli-skiing, surfing and diving base. Perfectly equipped for such expeditions, the large aft deck boasts two helipads, able to receive two helicopters at full rotation or be transformed into an extensive entertainment space when not in use. Features extend below deck, where a dive centre, helicopter hangar, submersible, toys and tender garages (fore and aft) are found.

Interior designers personally selected by the owner will create a custom look across the vessel, including the six staterooms that accommodate up to 12 guests, and an observation lounge. The yacht houses 25 staff at full capacity, higher than most superyachts in order to allow for the piloting of the many aircraft, toys and submersibles that La Datcha can hold. 

Designed to venture to the world’s most remote oceans, La Datcha is able to hold enough fuel and provisions for 40 days at sea without a port call and has an in built on board refueling system. In addition, Damen has used its extensive knowledge of icebreaking technology to deliver a strengthened hull, allowing the vessel to venture to remote artic environments.
