Abeking & Rasmussen launches Excellence
27th May 2019
A brand new pedigree yacht joined the global superyacht fleet on 25 May when German superyacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen safely launched their stunning new build 80-metre Excellence. The launch went ahead without a hitch, with Excellence slipping easily into the water in front of a crowd of the yard team and supporters. This was a very special moment for her owner – an experienced yachtsman – who watched proudly as she exited the Abeking & Rasmussen shed.
Designed by Andrew Winch and the team at Winch Design, Excellence boasts a striking profile with stylish curves and large glass panels incorporated into her design. Totally unique, she is a one-of-a-kind yacht with a reverse bow and a silhouette that draws comparisons to a modern spaceship. She has been designed to be unique but also timeless, with her design guaranteed to stand the test of time. “Excellence represents a huge milestone. A completely unique superstructure, she signifies an innovative and exciting new genre for Winch Design,” says Andrew Winch, founder of Winch Design.
Excellence’s unique exterior lines command attention, leading the eye up to the bridge and owner’s decks, which are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling mirrored glass. The use of glass in this way is a true feat of engineering and a testament to the skill of the team at Abeking & Rasmussen.
Key features include a swimming pool and platform, inviting Jacuzzi and expansive beach club for on-water living. With her striking bow and her visionary, industry disrupting layout, Excellence brings forward a new era for superyacht design. Now she is safely in the water Excellence will undergo sea trials along the river Weser and in the North Sea, with final finishing touches being completed by the yard team ahead of her official completion and handover in Summer 2019.
“We are very proud of this extraordinary yacht and our exceptional workforce, who mastered all requirements bravely. Never before have glass panels been installed in these dimensions. The unusual lines also repeatedly presented employees with major challenges. Now we have developed and successfully finished this masterpiece and can hardly wait for the sea trials,” says Hans Schaedla, CEO of Abeking & Rasmussen.
