Mondomarine reveals new Classic Line
23rd May 2019
Italian superyacht builder Mondomarine has revealed its brand new Classic Line of yachts. This move comes as part of a new forward-thinking strategy for the yard, which has been reinvigorated following its purchase by Palumbo in November 2018.
The Mondomarine ‘Classic’ line will be constructed from aluminium and has been styled as a revisited version of Mondomarine’s historic style. Three different models are available in the line-up, with a 43-metre, 50-metre and 63-metre on offer. All of the designs have a semi-displacement hull and shallow draft that will ensure access to all cruising grounds including the popular Caribbean.
The 50-metre design is the first of the range to be developed and features the design work of Luca Dini. Dini is also be responsible for the yard’s new ‘Discovery’ line, with the new Discovery 57 recently revealed. Luca Dini took 60-metre Sarastar, delivered by Mondomarine in 2017, as the starting point for his design, explaining that while the Classic series will be an evolution of Mondomarine’s beautiful designs, the idea was also to remain true to their original lines. “Our target was an evolution, yes, but without distorting the original design of that boat characterized by a sporty and elegant footprint with a combination of corners and curves, sinuous shapes and angles that, far from being strident, was quite harmonious,” he says. “In short, a creative review that, paradoxical as it may seem, translates into a Modern Classic.”
The yard says that the new design blends ‘a clever combination of sharp edges and sinuous lines, soft and pronounced curves, empty and full angles, reaching an overall balanced, coherent and elegant look.’ Inspiration was also drawn from classic Italian cars, in this case the Ferrari and Lamborghini Gran Turismo models.
The Mondomarine Classic 50 will be able to welcome up to 10 guests in five cabins, including the large owner’s cabin complete with two private balconies, and four additional guest cabins. 10 crew can also be housed on board. The Mondomarine Classic 50 will be able to cruise at 18.5knots with a top speed of 22 knots and a range of 3,500nm at 12 knots.
